7 Night Routine Tips to Fall Asleep Fast
Do you sleep 8 hours a night and still wake up feeling drained? Although vital, the number of hours you sleep may not be the secret to that restful sleep. A healthy night's routine may be the solution.
The stress and responsibilities of our daily lives can be super exhausting. If we don't learn how to deal with them, tiredness and routine will take over. And we know that sometimes, we feel like having a power nap to offset all the tension. But what about there's no time? How can we ensure we aren't entirely wiped out in the middle of the day? A deep rest is the solution. It sounds simple, but it isn't.
Find out here how to sleep like a baby and wake up refreshed to face the day ahead.
1. Set a Bedtime
Do you think getting 8 hours of sleep a night is the most important thing, no matter what time you go to bed? Well, that's not the case. If you really want to improve your sleep quality, going to bed at the same time every night is half the battle.
Think of your sleep as a muscle that needs to be trained. By always going to bed at the same time, your brain will begin to understand that that's the time to switch off and relax. If you are often distracted by your tasks, set a reminder on your phone half an hour before bed. That's enough time to wear your pajamas and get ready for a truly invigorating night.
And the same goes for the time you wake up. If you think you can make up for poor sleep by staying in bed later on the weekend, know that this is not how it works. The secret is consistency! This is the first step to implementing a healthy nighttime routine.
2. Get Ready for The Next Day
Have you ever found yourself unable to fall asleep because of the rush of the next day? It may sound childish, but putting off the little things you have to do the next day can help reduce stress. But, how? Planning the outfit you're going to wear or postponing lunch until the next day can be enough.
Organization and focus are also important for reducing anxiety. You may wonder, "How can this help you rest better?" Organize your tasks by priority using a to-do list. This way, you can distance yourself from your tasks and prioritize them. Believe us, you will feel calmer, which is essential for a good night's sleep.
3. Avoid Exercising Before Going to Bed
But calm down. If you love exercising in the evening, this isn't the end. Why not do some yoga to relieve tension or even take a walk outside to get some fresh air? Wrap up these activities with a moment of aromatherapy meditation to fall asleep faster. Nothing is more relaxing than disconnecting from the outside world while surrounded by soothing aromas. You are already feeling lulled, aren't you?
However, remember that exercising regularly is crucial for balancing your sleep cycles, as well as for a healthier lifestyle.
4. Read a Book & Leave Your Phone Behind
This point ties in with what we’ve just seen. How? If you are one of those who needs to “tire out” your brain, forget about an intensive series of physical exercises. Opt for a good book. But be careful, if you usually get carried away with the stories in the books, choose one with little action. Don’t stay up all night devouring your new favourite book.
If you think scrolling endlessly on TikTok has the same result, you are wrong. It seems like you are “tiring” your brain to fall asleep, but you are actually doing the opposite. Short-term content is highly addictive, activating your brain instead of relaxing it. Also, the blue light on the mobile is a problem because it is stimulating and delays sleep.
Extra tip: After reading your book, try journaling. Besides helping you relax, it’s an excellent personal development tool.
5. Indulge in a Hot Bath
This is nothing new, right? We all know that a hot bath 1-2 hours before bedtime can turn it into an immersive experience full of the most relaxing sensations. To transform this moment into an authentic sensory experience, light your favourites scented candles and just let yourself be carried away.
Pamper yourself as you deserve at the end of your bath, and wrap yourself in luxury bath towels. There’s nothing more rejuvenating than the cuddly embrace of cotton on your skin.
And since we know it can be hard to get out of a hot, relaxing bath, get a bath mat that’s both beautiful and soft so that the post-bath experience is just as invigorating. Finally, massage yourself with the best of body creams and oils.
6. Have a Bedtime Tea
During your bath (or afterward), you can enjoy a hot cup of tea. Here, we recommend a magical infusion that combines soothing passion flower and relaxing chamomile flower. This tea will make you sleep better while uplifting your dreams. On the other hand, if you are not much of a tea lover, you can always go for that comforting mug of hot milk.
Speaking of drinks, we all know that caffeinated beverages aren’t a good choice before bed, right? Just in case, here’s a reminder.
7. Check Your Bedding
Before we move on to bed linen, getting your bedroom ready for a tranquil night’s sleep is essential. Start by designating your bedroom for sleeping only. Avoid using the bedroom for other tasks, such as work. This will ensure your brain understands that the space is meant for rest.
Once you have set this rule, turn off all the lights at bedtime and avoid any noise. Don’t forget to keep your bedroom at a pleasant temperature. We don’t want you to have night sweats or be uncomfortable in a cold bedroom.
After setting the ambiance and routine, we move on to perhaps the most important thing, the bedding, after all, we spend about ⅓ of our time in bed. There isn't a right answer to the question, “What is the best bedding for me?”. You should start by getting to know your needs and preferences. If you prefer hotel bedding that is fresh and stylish, then Percale is perfect for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for a luxurious night’s sleep, Sateen won’t disappoint. What’s more, it is wonderful for taking care of your skin and hair. However, there are many more options, from Bamboo bedding to Linen or Egyptian Cotton. The secret is to always prioritize natural fibres and ethical production.
